JOB DESCRIPTION: Registered Structural Engineer.  We have an immediate opening for a Structural Engineer (SE) licensed in Iowa, Nebraska and surrounding states.  Engineer to serve as lead engineer on projects and be responsible for the overall design and engineering of Structural systems, generally as they pertain to buildings. Design structural support systems for mechanical equipment and serve as lead investigative engineer on structural engineering assignments.  KPE’s primary service markets are industrial/railroad, education, healthcare and commercial facilities plus Investigative Engineering for the insurance and legal claims industry.

Job Responsibilities: You will be responsible for operating an office in the Greater Des Moines area while serving as the company’s licensed Structural Engineer.  Job responsibilities include the design and management of an array of projects to include: Structural engineering for a diverse client base plus, serving as a field engineer during the design process or investigative engineering process, performing design calculations and analysis, review of shop drawings, writing/editing specifications, as well as, preparing various reports. This position requires an individual who can provide the utmost in accuracy for all technical work and correspondence and must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with the design team and our clients. As the lead structural engineer on projects, you will be responsible for working directly with clients and the design team to establish parameters and goals of the project.

Qualifications: Professional Registration as a Structural Engineer (Iowa and Nebraska or proven ability to expediently attain license through NCEES)
Experience with facility structural components
Vast knowledge of relevant systems and codes
Ability to self-direct and prioritize to meet project deadlines
Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with clients
Strong computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook
Auto CAD experience is a plus, but not required.
Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired but not required.
